Sydney Pools – The Best Places to Cool Off in the Heat

Though Sydneysiders may be known for our passion for beaches, Sydneysiders also take their pools seriously. Many are built into Sydney’s clifftops and beaches for peak-heatwave relief – offering both serene low tide environments as well as exciting high tide conditions to make up an original infinity pool experience.

The best pools have ample seating and shade, making them great for families. However, some pools can be more secluded, like Palm Beach’s 50-metre rock pool 25 miles north of downtown – home to movie stars and moguls – which has its own 50-meter rock pool that dates back over 70 years and where John Carter, an 77-year-old swim coach is teaching another generation how to swim.

Coogee’s Wylie’s Baths was established by champion long-distance swimmer Henry Alexander Wylie in 1907. Set above the ocean on a rocky headland, its elevated position affords views that extend all the way to Wedding Cake Island and back. Bondi Tidal Pool offers another accessible alternative; at low tide it reveals panoramic ocean views spanning its tidal pool carved into its sandstone cliffs – one of Sydney’s most beloved beaches!

Prince Alfred Park Pool in inner Sydney is an oasis of summer for inner Sydney locals, boasting facilities that won two National Architecture awards when upgraded in 2014. With 50-metre pools always at that perfect temperature for jumping right in, locals flock here to soak up some sun beneath buttercup yellow umbrellas while their children go for a swim – plus it hosts Sydney Stingrays swim team which this year had approximately 100 youth members!
