On Sunday night at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Hong Kong Film Awards (HKFA) hosted their 41st ceremony. Mabel Cheung’s documentary To My Nineteen-Year-Old Self was the big winner, taking home best film honors. However, controversy ensued with regards to Ying Wa Girls Documentary being banned from cinemas after its director and featured student claimed they did not consent for its screening and nomination at HKFA.
Prof. Cecilia L. Chu was presented with the 2024 ICAS Book Prize for Global Hong Kong Studies for her book Building Colonial Hong Kong: Speculative Development and Segregation in the City, winning not one, but two prestigious book awards: IPHS Book Prize in 2023 and now ICAS in 2024.
