The Singapore Prize is a competition designed to find and recognize outstanding environmental protection projects. Winners will receive GBP 1 million (approximately USD 1.25 million or SGD 1.7 million), serving as an incentive to expand upon their innovations and implement their ideas more broadly. Projects selected as winners should reduce human activity’s negative impacts while contributing towards economic development of their nation.
This year’s Singapore Prize will take place from 6-11 November 2022 at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, with performances by internationally-acclaimed musicians and artists from 6-11 November as part of this prestigious awards event sponsored by various global companies. In 2023, the Earthshot Prize will be introduced as an award that celebrates innovative climate solutions and preserves our environment. Hosted in Singapore and presented by Britain’s Prince William, five winners will each be granted PS1 million prize funds as awards.
In 1969, Singapore hosted its inaugural prize drawing to raise funds for the construction of their national stadium, named for Lee Kuan Yew (late businessman and sports enthusiast). Over time, The Big Sweep Lottery proved itself successful and contributed over $14.5 Million towards this effort.

Professor John Miksic of the Department of Southeast Asian Studies was honored this year with the inaugural NUS Singapore History Prize for his book titled, “Singapore’s Lost Treasures: From the Merlion to Bukit Ho Swee”, providing archaeological proof that Singapore may be older than previously believed and opening up possibilities of reassessing both its history and place within Asia.
Yesterday evening, the National Arts Council presented its Patron of the Arts Awards to 344 individuals and organisations for their generous support to local arts scenes.
