At the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards, a retro financial thriller and kung fu hit were among the big winners, with The Goldfinger winning best film and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In nabbing top honours respectively. Additionally, veteran actor Sammo Hung received a lifetime achievement prize.
Team Hong Kong won three gold medals at the 2022 World Fencing Championships in Paris, with fencing mastermind Vivian Kong and Edgar Cheung taking home their respective events, along with swimmers Siobhan Haughey and Adrian Meronk winning their races.

The Chairman’s Sprint Prize (formerly Hong Kong Sprint) is a Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race in Hong Kong that runs over 1210 metres. First held in 1996 and named for Sir Eric Tinkler who died during its inaugural run-out, the event has become one of Hong Kong’s premier horse racing events since then.
As Hong Kong celebrates its 100th Anniversary this year, the Society for the History of Hong Kong Studies (SHKS) is excited to introduce their inaugural award – “SHKS Young Scholars’ Prize”. The prize will recognize and encourage young scholars interested in East Asian planning history who publish in English in an academic journal two calendar years before IPHS Conferences; its goal is also to expand SHKS’ intellectual network.
Third-year students completing 48 credits or more of history are eligible for this prize donated by friends and colleagues of Professor George B. Endacott who played an instrumental role in the reestablishment of History Department after its disbandment in 1946.
Winners of this award will receive an engraved golden medal and cash prize of HK$25,000. Fellows interested in entering should submit their paper by filling out and submitting the form, providing full article and abstract via link below by August 31, 2024. Submission deadline for all papers.
Established in 2018, SHKS is an international, interdisciplinary and non-profit professional association for scholars of Hong Kong. An affiliate of the Association for Asian Studies, its aim is to encourage new theories, concepts and methodologies for studying Hong Kong’s global connections and significance both current and historical.
