Domino is a game in which tile-shaped playing pieces called dominoes are stacked in long rows on an opponent’s tabletop. Once one tile falls over, it causes another one to tip over; until all dominoes have been knocked off their positions. Domino can be played both casually and competitively and is becoming increasingly popular over time.
Fictionally speaking, dominoes can serve as a metaphor for chain reactions in literature and cinema. One event can spark another one with far-reaching, often catastrophic results – an example being when one house on a block catches fire and starts the domino effect that consumes whole neighborhoods.
The Latin dominus (Master) word domino evolved into the English and French words domino which means powerful person or thing. Since the mid-18th century, this usage was common. While its exact source may remain obscure; one theory held that its original usage referred to a priest’s cape worn over their surplice–an idea supported by earlier senses of both words in both languages.
Domino, a mutant with the power to influence odds in her favor, is a master weapon specialist and martial artist, as well as being a talented linguist who can run at incredible speeds.
Domino was part of Project Armageddon when her abilities first appeared as an infant, an experiment designed to genetically engineer a precognitive mutant from her mother Beatrice using albino Neena as surrogate mother. Unfortunately, however, these experiments were interrupted when Neena was abducted by Beatrice’s cult and taken in for care by a Chicago priest until her mutations emerged at age 13. Domino then joined Storm’s security task force protecting mutant refugees on Utopia before helping restructure X-Force alongside Cable before hunting feral Grizzly while also hindering Sublime’s Third Species mutant organ harvesting movement against John Sublime’s Third Species mutant organ harvesting movement against John Sublime’s Third Species mutant organ harvesting movement against Sublime himself.
Domino and Cable fell deeply in love during the Age of Apocalypse event and announced it openly, leading them to kiss. Once their normal timeline returned, Domino helped Cable reform X-Force before investigating a string of murders committed by an out-of-control Grizzly bear.
Domino was previously working as a freelancer before rejoining X-Force following the murder of her friend by Donald Pierce’s Reavers mob. Alongside Sunspot and Siryn, Domino also helped prevent Danielle Moonstar’s exposure through Operation Zero Tolerance by acting as an undercover camera crew to infiltrate medical facilities where they believed the government was conducting anti-mutant research.
Domino is not only known for her mercenary work but is an advocate of environmental conservation as well. She opposes nuclear proliferation and campaigns against genetic engineering that creates super soldiers for war that could trigger genocide – something Cable was previously an opponent to. They currently date each other.
